PPS Sustainability & Circularity has been appointed by Exchange for Change to deliver Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) certification for the UK Deposit Return Scheme (DRS).

As the appointed Certification Body, PPS conducts independent certification assessments against the UK DRS RVM Certification Standard to determine whether an RVM meets the requirements for certification within the scheme.

Certification assessments cover key areas including:

• Container recognition and validation

• Fraud prevention and system integrity

• Container processing and compaction

• Connectivity and data management

• Data management and security

• Consumer interaction and accessibility

• Deposit repayment functionality

• Operational and safety requirements

Before Requesting a Certification Assessment

Suppliers should review the UK DRS RVM Certification Standard before submitting a certification assessment request and ensure that the RVM is ready for assessment.

We also recommend reviewing the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), which provide guidance on certification scope, representative models, assessment readiness, test article lists, reassessment and the certification process.

Review the UK DRS RVM Certification Standard to understand the certification requirements, assessment activities, evidence requirements and certification process.

Ensure that proposed RVMs are capable of meeting all applicable requirements before progressing to certification assessment request.

Complete and submit a Certification Assessment Request, including details product families, proposed representative assessment models and supporting information required to establish the certification scope.

PPS will review the information provided to determine certification scope, identify representative assessment models, confirm assessment requirements and assess readiness for certification activities.

Certification assessments consist of Functional Test Scenarios, documentation reviews, demonstrations and evidence reviews, as applicable. Assessment activities are undertaken to gather objective evidence of compliance with the Certification Standard.

PPS will review the assessment findings and determine whether the applicable Certification Requirements have been successfully demonstrated.

Suppliers will receive a Certification Assessment Report and certification outcome. Certified RVMs will be added to the approved register maintained by Exchange for Change.
